Agenda:

  Book Background

Images of America - Pound Ridge is an eye-catching visual time machine whose historical photographs transport us back to a time when Poundridge was bare and trees were hard to find; shoemaking, dairy farming and basket making were the main occupations; and a Poundridger could have an address of Stamford, CT a phone exchange of Bedford, NY yet pay their taxes to Poundridge, NY.

This unparalleled and important historical tomb brings to life the history of our town from Revolutionary era antidotes through late 19th and early 20th century photography.  In these pages are rarely seen archival photographs of important events, buildings & maps as well as historical narrative spanning 300 years.  Images of America - Pound Ridge looks at our town’s past in an all new way.

Richard Major, President of the Pound Ridge Historical Society, and Vince Manna, member of the Pound Ridge Historical Society, lead us through a time when Open Space was used for income generation, a rural feel meant residents typically owned lots of 50 acres or more, and, at times, people questioned if they could survive the hardships of trying to live in Poundridge.  In so doing, they attempt to inspire a sense of place and history for all Pound Ridge residents.

*  prior to 1940, "Poundridge" was the correct spelling .... one word, little "r"
